Ideas for Practicing Multiplication Facts

1. Print out a copy of these visual flash cards. Contact me if it would be easier for me to print them out and send them home with your child.

2. Play games together using cards and dice. Some suggestions are below.

Multiplication War - Deal the entire deck out to both players. Aces are worth one and face cards worth ten. Each player turns over their top two cards and multiplies them. Highest product wins all four cards.

Salute - Requires 3 players. The entire deck is dealt to two players (the third person acts like a referee). When the referee says “Salute!” the two players put their top cards on their foreheads, without looking at the card. The referee multiplies the two numbers and says the product. The first person to correctly say the number on their forehead is declared the winner and gets both cards. This game helps with both multiplication and division!

Pile it On - This game requires a di and a deck of cards. The first player rolls the di twice. Their first roll tells them how many rows they must make. Their second roll tells how many cards to place face down in each row. Once the cards are placed in an array, the total number of cards is determined and the multiplication fact is recorded on a piece of paper. The cards are gathered together and the second player repeats those steps. After 10 rounds, the player who used the most cards wins.
