Professor Clark joined Randolph-Macon’s Mathematics Department in 2008. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego, having received his B.S. in math and astrophysics from Tufts University.
While his research training is in quantum topological invariants and knot theory (specifically Khovanov homology), more recently Professor Clark has become interested in the development of mathematics in Tokugawa Japan; connections between mathematics and sports; and the writing of mathematics for the lay audience, with the goal of making big ideas in math accessible to non-experts. His Erdös number is 3.
When not thinking about math, Professor Clark enjoys working on his old house, throwing frisbees, and hanging out with Lisa (partner) and Penny (dog), only one of whom seems interested in the frisbees.
