The 2018 National Christmas Tree Lighting

"In 1923, President Calvin Coolidge walked from the White House to the Ellipse to light a 48-foot fir tree decorated with 2,500 electric bulbs in red, white and green, as a local choir and a “quartet” from the U.S. Marine Band performed. 95 years later, this American holiday tradition continues to bring citizens together to share in a message of hope and peace." (National Park Foundation)

This year, our very own Fine Arts Department taught by Mrs. Amy Tsujioka is the Hawai'i representative for this national ceremony. Along with her students, she created ornaments that were painted and are to be placed on the National Christmas Tree this coming November throughout December. Shown below are some examples of the ornaments sent to the National Park Foundation.

We're so proud of Marcus Hee, a senior at Roosevelt High, and our dedicated math teacher, Mrs. Kinoshita! Keep doing what you are doing! Go BUCS!

RLSMS Alum credits part of his success to his 7th Grade Math Teacher

Yesterday's Star Advertiser article starts with Marcus' credit to his beloved math teacher, Mrs. Kinoshita.

“Since he was quite young, Marcus Hee has written down his dreams and goals. He always succeeded. Then came seventh-grade math. He started failing at his goal. He almost gave up. But he went in for tutoring with Miss Smith, or now Mrs. Kinoshita at Stevenson Middle School. Every single day, "I’d come to Mrs. Kinoshita’s class during recess and after school for tutoring. I really had to work hard. There’s some days I’d cry in her arms because I would not understand anything and I’d feel like a failure,” Hee recalled. “She really opened up my eyes. She made me push for that extra mile. I’m just forever grateful for her because I still hold her true to my heart to this day.”

Name in the News: Trish Morgan

Mrs. Morgan reported during her recent interview with the Star Advertiser that RLSMS' new Makerspace aptly named the "Imaginarium" is nearly complete. Per Mrs. Morgan, there is something for everyone in there. The goal of the grant is to cultivate a community of innovators not isolated to Stevenson but to our neighboring feeder schools as well.

To read more about RLSMS' Imaginarium, please refer to the November 9, Star Adverstiser article: Name in the News: Trish Morgan.
