Farmer's Insurance Teacher Grants

Farmer's Insurance recognizes that America’s teachers make a big impact in the futures of our nation’s kids – giving their time, talent and knowledge to create a brighter tomorrow.

This past year, 3 of our fantastic RLSMS teachers, Rose Yonamine, Patricia Morgan, and Ken Kakesako submitted proposals for Farmer's Insurance Thank America's Teachers $2,500 grant. One of those 3 teachers were honored today with a GIANT check for receiving the highest number of supporting votes here in Hawaii. That was Science teacher and After School Wrestling Coach, Ken Kakesako, who was totally surprised by Farmer's Insurance Hawaii during our Faculty Meeting today with $2,000 to fund his proposal. Congratulations Mr. Kakesako!!!

Although, Mrs. Yonamine did not win the grant, she did receive a very nice gift bag with lots of goodies! :0)

But that's not all. No, Mrs. Morgan did not receive the $2,500 grant for Thank America's Teachers. However, she is anxiously awaiting BIGGER news. You see, in addition to submitting a proposal for Thank America's Teachers, Mrs. Morgan also submitted a proposal for the Farmer's Insurance $100,000 Dream Big Teacher Challenge. AND... She is a one of the finalists, nationwide!!! Yes!

So stay tuned! Voting for the $100,000 Dream Big Teacher Challenge will be underway in September 29th - October 29th. We need all the support we can get! Go to https://www.farmers.com/thank-americas-teachers/vote-for-a-teacher/. Spread the news!

This federal survey form identifies federally connected students and may qualify the school to receive impact aid funds which the school can use to purchase educational supplies, materials, equipment, etc. for our students under Title VII of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Please ask your child for the form. We ask that you take a few minutes to complete the form and return the form to the AA teacher by ASAP. If you need help filling out the form, please call 808-564-6000 and ask for the Federal Survey Section.

Free and Reduced Lunch Applications

Free and Reduced Lunch Applications (white legal size paper with burgundy print) were distributed at the beginning of the year in the beginning of school packet. These applications are important not only because it will result in federal assistance for families in the form of free or reduced meals. It also provides the school with supplemental funding through Title I of the ESSA. This supplemental funding is critical for our school. In the past, it has been a difference of more than $100,000 in additional funds for the purpose of improving student achievement for all students. The deadline for submitting applications is Tuesday, September 19. If you would like to apply online, please go to hionlineapps.primeroedge.com to begin the process. Student Publication/Audio/Video Release Form

This was one of the forms that were distributed in the first day of school packet. It is a white letter -size sheet with the Hawaii DOE logo on it that was in the Parent Notification booklet. Parents or guardians are asked to complete the form to inform us if you allow any information about your child or your child's work to be published in various forms of media including print (like the yearbook), online (like the website), social media, open-circuit, closed circuit or cable television transmission within or outside the state of Hawaii. Please check yes or no, sign the form and return it to your child's AA teacher ASAP.

Technology Responsible Use Form

This Technology Responsible Use form was also included in the beginning of school packet. It is page 27 of the Parent Notification booklet. As you all know, students use technology on a daily basis. Many of them use their own mobile devices before and after school while everyone has access to technology during school on school devices. Without this form, however, students are not allowed to use our devices, our software, our internet/network. Please take some time to review this form with your child, complete it, and return it to your child's AA teacher ASAP.

6th and 7th grade parents and families – APT NEEDS YOU.

We need your involvement and support. The best way to start your involvement, is by attending our monthly meetings. Because students are with the middle school for only three short years, most families are with our school for three years, unless there are younger siblings. By contrast, families are with elementary schools for at least 6 years, and high schools for 4 years and beyond, through high school alumni associations. Middle school APTs like ours, face frequent structural turnover for this reason, making maintaining and growing the APT a constant challenge. We lose APT Board members, and member families every year, who ‘graduate’ with their child to high school. We constantly need new parents and “new blood” to take their places. Please join our efforts to continue APT’s positive momentum this year. Our monthly meetings are always posted on the home page calendar of the school website. All are welcome to attend.
