We use the Letters and Sounds approach to teaching phonics, through the Phonics Play programme. Children are systematically introduced to letters and sounds through 6 Phases from Nursery to Year 2. These phases take children from the early stages of tuning into sounds, rhythm and rhyme and alliteration, to looking at letters and linking them to sounds starting with single letter/sound relationships to digraphs/trigraphs where 2/3 make one sound to looking more carefully at spelling patterns.
Through early years and Key Stage 1, children receive daily lessons, which are fun and engaging and the learning is designed to be memorable. Alongside this children are exposed to reading books that match their level of phonic development, both in terms of decoding, problem solving and common exception words.
