Year 5 News:

The Year 5 team would like to welcome you all to a very exciting time in your school lives as you join upper key stage 2. As the children move into Year 5, the expectations and responsibilities increase, with a greater emphasis on independent learning. After changes to our school curriculum this year, we have worked hard to ensure we will be delivering exciting and engaging topics where children are motivated and want to learn. Our aim is to inspire pupils through ‘wow moments’ (stunning starts; marvellous middle and fantastic finish) throughout the year which we hope will support pupils to achieve to their full potential and engage them with their learning.

Topic for Autumn Term

The children will be stepping back in time this year and returning to the days where Anglo Saxons and Vikings were hard at battle to secure rule of England. The children will be immersing themselves into role play; decoding hidden messages and even experiencing what it was like as a Viking when rowing to England on a longship. As well as looking at the history of these ferocious tribes, the children will learn more about the human and physical geography of the Vikings, native countries and produce work for their topic books which will be ongoing throughout the term.
