This is an entry level course designed for students interested in careers in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment Pathway, Emphasis in Production and Managerial Arts. Students will be introduced to industry-standard tools, skills, and materials that they can manipulate as the primary means of creative expression. Students will explore basic applications of various multimedia tools to create visual, aural, and written projects focusing on the digital output. Technically, students will learn to manage different file formats, use a variety of image capturing devices, and combine different types of media into effective and entertaining images & presentations. Video and Television production will be primary focus. Software used ranges from Adobe Suite: Photoshop, Flash, Premiere, After Effects, Audition, Encore and Autodesk Maya.

Recommendation: Basic Computer skills or instructors approval. Juniors and seniors may be admitted only with instructor's approval.

This course is highly recommended for those interested in video production and IB Film.


This is second or concentrator course for students interested in careers in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment Pathway, Emphasis in Production and Managerial Arts. This course provides students with more application and training in the use of television/computer equipment and production techniques. Students will produce programs for the school, other students, and for the internet. Extensive use of computers in video will be part of the class. There is significant time commitment that may extend before and after school hours. Students will often work independently, and all students are expected to maintain a serious work environment with professional behavior. Students must be highly self-motivated.

This Capstone course for the Arts, Media, and Entertainment Pathway, Emphasis in Production and Managerial Arts & is designed to provide students with training in the principles and practices of high quality business leadership and management. Students will demonstrate advanced knowledge & skills in pre-production, production, and post-production practices in an educational and work based environment. Students create film, video, & sound products that demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of professional film and video and sound production. Students apply knowledge & skills in planning & time management, ethics and integrity, and conflict resolution. They will also demonstrate communication skills, practice decision-making and problem-solving, and develop team building activities, leadership qualities, and management styles – while serving in leadership positions with the Oakmont Productions classes.

Advanced 3D

Graphic Design (Illustrator)

3D Animation is a one-term course designed for students interested in integrating technology and art. This beginning course will give students the basic artistic knowledge and technology skills needed to create computer animations. Students will learn how to manipulate shapes, textures and colors while changing motion, camera placement, and lighting. This course does require some drawing and /or photography. Students will learn to use “Maya” software from Autodesk. Good story telling is a must.

Recommendation: Basic Computer skills. Juniors and seniors may be admitted with instructor's approval.

Students will continue to develop their artistic design, storytelling, and advanced animation techniques. Topics will include sophisticated modeling, advanced lighting, materials, character rigging, special effects, and particle systems. The class culminates in a large professional quality small group animation. This course allows students to advance their creative talents.

Prerequisite: Students must pass 3D Animation with a “B” or better in both terms and instructor approval. See instructor for application for course.

Digital Illustration introduces students to the fundamental concepts of effective graphic communication with an emphasis on Adobe Illustrator as a primary design tool. Students will participate in the full design process, including brainstorming, conceptualizing, communicating with the client, pre-press production, and collaborative critiquing. Students will explore the fundamentals of graphic design theory, layout design, typography, and the career potential within the design field. Emphasis is on giving students real world experiences in creative problem-solving in the design environment.
