Over 40 Years of Proven Success

Regardless of their life circumstances, AVID students overcome obstacles and achieve success. They graduate and attend college at higher rates, but more importantly, they can think critically, collaborate, and set high expectations to confidently conquer the challenges that await them.

AVID Elementary

AVID Elementary is for grades TK–6 and closes the opportunity gap before it begins. By teaching and reinforcing academic behaviors and higher-level thinking at a young age, AVID Elementary teachers create a ripple effect in later grades. Elementary students develop the academic habits they will need to be successful in middle school, high school, and college, in an age-appropriate and challenging way. Children learn about organization, study skills, communication, and self-advocacy.  To learn more about AVID Elementary, please click HERE.

AVID Secondary

AVID Secondary is intended for students in grades 7–12. It equips teachers and schools with what they need to help students succeed on a path to college and career success. AVID has the ability to impact students in the AVID Elective class and all students throughout the campus.  AVID impacts the entire school by providing classroom activities, teaching practices, and academic behaviors that can be incorporated into any classroom to improve engagement and success for all students.  To learn more about AVID Secondary, please click HERE.

WICOR

WICOR is an instructional model that stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. It's a learning approach that helps students become more engaged and develop the skills they need to be ready for college and careers.

Here are some key features of WICOR:

Student-centered

WICOR puts students at the center of their learning, empowering them to take charge of their thinking and learning.

Collaborative teaching

WICOR is built on collaborative teaching and learning, with strategies that engage both teachers and students.

Rigorous learning

WICOR helps teachers provide students with opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills through rigorous course content.

Skill-building

WICOR is a scaffolded process that begins in elementary school and continues through K-12.

Effective in any setting

WICOR strategies can be used in face-to-face, blended, and virtual learning environments.

National Demonstration Schools

An AVID National Demonstration School is a school that serves as an example of the AVID College Readiness System. These schools are models of best practices and strategies for AVID, and visitors can observe how AVID is implemented schoolwide.
