What an exciting time for you as you prepare to leave elementary school and transition to middle school!  We are excited that you will soon be joining our Chemawa family!  Here you will find resources and information to help you prepare for 7th grade.

Accelerated and Honors Classes

Accelerated Math 7

Students will learn all 7th grade math content plus half the year of standards from 8th Grade Math.  Students must take this course in order to enroll in Accelerated 8th Grade Math 1, which also covers 1 ½ years of curriculum. Students who take Accelerated 8th Grade Math 1 will have their grade posted on the high school transcript. 

Honors Language Arts and US History

Requires excellent grades in 6th grade and teacher recommendation.

Honors Science

Requires excellent grades in 6th grade and teacher recommendation.

ASB


Associate Student Body/Leadership class is a yearlong class open to 7th and 8th grade students.  ASB has been designed to provide students with leadership skills and the opportunities to apply those skills in leadership roles at Chemawa Middle School.

 *Requires teacher approval and a completed application.

AVID

AVID focuses on preparing students for academic success in middle school, high school and college.

Band

Chemawa offers three levels of band classes: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced.  Band students learn to read music and play instruments.  Band students also participate in bi-yearly performances.

Computers

This class is an introduction to computers.  Students will learn the computer applications, coding and game design.

Explore 7: Bio Medical Science/Health


Students will learn about forensic sciences, DNA research, and conduct labs.

In Health, students learn about nutrition, emotional and mental wellness.

Each subject is a one semester class.

Explore 7: Art


Students will learn about many aspects of art, from art history to aesthetics, criticism, and art production. They will have the opportunity to create original artworks using different media, such as pencil, colored pencil, chalk pastel, oil pastel, and painting, all while learning basic design principles. 

Explore 7: Health

The Health and Wellness class will cover healthy living, diseases, diet, overall wellness. 

This is a one semester class.

Explore 7: Music Appreciation

The Music Appreciation class will cover music notes, genres and styles of music.  This is not a performance based class.

This is a one semester class.

Explore 7: Media Arts

In this class, students will take the basics of Media Arts including photography and filmmaking.

This is a one semester class.

Explore 7: Introduction to Theater

This class is the introduction to theater productions, drama, acting, stage and set design.  This is a performance based class and participation is a requirement.

This is a one semester class.

Pre-AP Spanish

Students in the AP Spanish program will take Pre AP Spanish in 7th grade and AP Spanish in 8th grade.  

Application and Spanish Assessment is required.

Yearbook

In Yearbook, students create and produce our school yearbook.  Students must have good computer and writing skills.
