Meet Mrs. Dent

Greetings from Cherry Hill Music!

My name is Mrs. Kelly Dent. This is my 20th year teaching general and vocal music at Cherry Hill.  I am looking forward to an exciting, musical school year in 2023-2024! 

Did you  know that I wasn't always a teacher?  Keep reading to learn more about my story.  I'll give you a hint...it involves Star Wars!

Did you know?

* I have a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degree, in French horn performance, from the Juilliard School in New York City.

* I am certified in Orff Schulwerk, as well as Conversational Solfege and First Steps in Music through the Feierabend Association of Music Educators (FAME). 

* Before teaching, I was a professional French horn player. I performed in many professional orchestras and Broadway shows in the New York area. I once toured all over Japan, performing in the American Symphony Orchestra! You can hear me playing horn on the original soundtrack to the Broadway show, Wicked.

* I grew up in Penticton, B.C., Canada. 

* I am married to a professional trumpet player, and we have two grown children.

* I chose to learn the French horn after hearing the music to Star Wars (Episode IV).

* My favorite piece of music is the Rite of Spring, because the rhythm is so complex, the horns get to play very loudly, and I had the privilege of playing it with the New York Philharmonic.
