‘That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do;

  not that the nature of the thing itself is changed,

  but that our power to do is increased.’

–Ralph Waldo Emerson

After 17 years at Riverdale, I continue to feel fortunate to be a part of this vibrant teaching and learning  community.   We provide a unique, personalized experience for students based on the CES (Coalition of Essential Schools) Principles.

1.     Learning to use one’s mind well

2.     Less is more—depth over coverage

3.     Goals apply to all students

4.     Personalization

5.     Student as worker, teacher as coach

6.     Demonstration of mastery

7.     A tone of decency and trust

8.     Commitment to the entire school

9.     Resources dedicated to teaching and learning

10.  Democracy and equity

We get to know our students well.  We strive to challenge and guide them in their learning.   We fully embrace the small high school experience as both rare and unrivaled.

I teach a variety of mathematics courses from Algebra 1 through Calculus.  I also teach several life science electives:  Human Anatomy, Neurobiology and Art Through Zoology.

If you have a student interested in visiting our campus for the day, please contact our Enrollment Coordinator Hilary Chandler hchandler@riverdale.k12.or.us  to schedule a Shadow Day.
