14 May 2017 (Fifth Sunday of Easter)

[Acts 6:1-7] [1 Peter 2:4-9] [John 14:1-12]

It’s the first time we read in Acts that a group of volunteers was selected by the early church to handle an important task, i.e. the daily distribution of funds to the widows of their community. The criteria for selection? Full of the Holy Spirit & wisdom. Essential components for Holy Stewardship. In the Letters of St Peter, we find him encouraging the faithful to come forward as “living stones” to help build the body of Christ, the Church, by offering spiritual and acceptable sacrifices to God through Jesus Christ. Jesus called & chose us to proclaim his Goodness so that more will come to believe in Him and enjoy eternal paradise. Jesus assures his disciples & “living stones” that he’ll specially prepare a place for them in heaven. Jesus declares that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. That God the Father & him are one. So that God’s glory be shown through him, Jesus also assures that if we ask for anything in his name, He will grant it. Now, wouldn’t you call that “premium support from above”?
