Join us in a discussion of Du Bois' 1920 short story "The Comet." 

We invite you to also look at two short critical works that read "The Comet." First, a chapter from Adrienne Brown's The Black Skyscraper (2017), winner of an MSA first book prize that approaches the story from the perspective of infrastructure, the theme of this year's MSA conference. And second, Saidiya Hartman's "The End of White Supremacy: An American Romance" (2020), that thinks about the work of Black speculative fictions of the past imagining our present. Please still come even if you only had time to dig into the story itself though!
