FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

This page will assist you with any questions you may have regarding live streams available via the Ririe Bulldogs athletics website.

Where can I find the schedule for the live streams?

The schedule can be found on the main Live Stream page. The schedule is updated weekly and will also contain the links to each individual game/match.

What platform do you use to live stream home events?

Ririe High School uses YouTube as it's primary method of live streaming events. There are four channels that belong to Ririe High School:

Feel free to click on the links to each channel and subscribe to them. The channels will notify you when a live event begins streaming.

Effective August 2022, high school sporting events will also be live streamed on the NFHS Network through the use of an automated Pixellot camera at the football field and the high school gym.

Does Ririe High School produce all of the live streams available on this website?

The answer is no. Ririe High School will produce all live streams at home events only, unless permission is granted for us to live stream while at an away event. If there are live stream links to watch away events, those links are provided by the host school and will denote if it is free to watch or a pay-per-view service.

Does it cost money to watch the Ririe High School live streams?

All events produced by Ririe High School on our YouTube channels do not cost money to watch. The live streams through the NFHS Network require a monthly subscription to the NFHS Network.

I clicked the link to the live stream from my smartphone: how do I make the video go full screen?

There are two ways to do this:

  1. Check in the bottom right corner of the video player and see if there is a small square box. This is the full screen button. Click it and the video should now be full screen.

  2. Next to the address bar in your browser, the red YouTube icon may appear. Clicking on that icon will take you to the YouTube app. Once in the app, you will have the option to make the video full screen by following the instructions in Step 1.

Why does the quality of the video change occasionally?

The video quality has to do with your connection to the internet. As you receive the live stream your connection to the internet may vary in speed and quality, especially if the event you are watching is taking place during the evening due to increased numbers of people using the internet and streaming video.

If the video stops and buffers, it is almost always because you do not have enough bandwidth to keep up with the current live stream. On rare occasion, the school may experience internet issues which will affect the live stream on our end. But almost always, if there are issues it is because of the internet bandwidth and speed on the viewers end.

Is it possible to increase the quality of the video manually on the YouTube live streams?

Yes it is. Click on the "Gear" icon towards the bottom right corner of the video player. There will be several options available, including Auto, 144p, 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, and 1080p60. In general, the higher the number, the better the quality but also the higher the bandwidth needed to stream.

By selecting "Auto", this will allow the video player to automatically adjust the quality of the live stream on the fly. This will create less-to-no buffering while ensuring a smooth stream.

  • 144p: Quarter-SD Quality - this means it is a quarter the quality of a standard definition stream.

  • 240p: Half-SD Quality - this means it is half of the quality of a standard definition stream.

  • 360p: Three-Quarter SD Quality - this means it is three-quarters the quality of a standard definition stream.

  • 480p: SD Quality - this means it is a standard definition quality stream.

  • 720p: Low HD Quality - this means it is the lowest level of high definition quality stream.

  • 1080p60: HD Quality - this means it is the standard for high definition quality streaming and also streams at 60 frames per second as opposed to 30 frames per second for lower quality levels.

Can I pause or rewind the stream?

Yes! Just click on the 'pause' button in the bottom left corner of the video player to pause the video. If you would like to rewind the video, click on the red line at the bottom of the video player and use the red button to move the video backwards or forwards.

After pausing or rewinding the stream, how do I return to live action?

Click on the word 'LIVE' near the bottom left corner of the video player. This will jump the video ahead to live action.
