The fifth graders began the school year by introducing their classmates to their partner in the style of a news broadcast. We learned about their many interesting facts about each other while we practiced our acting and public speaking skills.
The fifth graders began the year with a fun movement activity to a song by Billy Porter called Love Yourself. They copied a collection of dancing GIFs and then placed different body parts in a hula hoop. The fifth graders also learned a little bit about Billy Porter.
This dance required the fifth graders to work together as a team to perform some new challenging dance moves including thread the needle and backwards banana flip. It was a great way to start the year!
We began our International Dot Day celebrations in the Performing Arts classroom, by singing a song inspired by Peter H. Reyonold's book called The Dot. After listening to another book by Peter H. Reyonolds called The Word Collector, the students created found word chants.
Students performed these collections as solos and then collaborated with other students to devise more complex voice compositions.
Be sure to check out their creations on display near the front office.
In conjunction with reading the novel The Westing Game in Language Arts class, the fifth graders worked in small groups to block and act out a scene from the beginning of the book. They also created original scenes using character information and other details from the book.
