A. Tokyo and Saitama where Rikkyo campuses are located are known for its expensive rent. Rikkyo University provides support to special international students in many ways so that everyone can enjoy their study abroad life to the fullest. When it comes to dormitories, students can stay at the dormitories at a special price. This is because Rikkyo covers a part of the dormitory fees. The amount covered by Rikkyo University depends on the dormitory, but the coverage provided helps to ease the financial burden for everyone. The amounts of the subsidy are decided based on the location and regular dormitory fees as follows.

The dormitory fee will be charged per semester. Expenses other than the dormitory fee are generally charged monthly and must be paid by the due date through the method designated by the management company. Installment payment and credit card payment are not available.

Q. I think dorm rules such as smoking, etc. are too very strict.

A. You should be aware that you opted to live in a dorm by accepting to follow the dorm rules to live safely and comfortably in a communal living. If you feel the rules are too strict, it might be better for you not to choose to live in a dorm but to find an apartment on your own. Please note that if you violate the rules, you will be subjected to displacement from the dorm (you will still need to pay all the dorm fees during the contract period).

Q. Why is my contract period shorter than my study period?

A. The dormitory’s contract is made on a semester basis. Those who will study at Rikkyo for one academic year and wish to continue residing at the dormitory for the second semester must submit a “Continuation Notice” as well as the signed contract by the due date.

【Due date】 Spring (April) admission : early June

Those who will study at Rikkyo for one academic year and wish to continue the bedding lease for the second semester must submit a “Continuation Notice” as well as the signed contract by the due date. Also, you will need to pay the remaining balance of the second semester after deducting the amount of the first semester from the total yearly amount.

Q. Is Wi-Fi in the dorm stable enough?

A. High density environments such as dorms have sometimes too many users for the available bandwidth. In addition, please notify the dormitory manager in advance if you wish to stay out for the night. (except for Comfort Ikebukuro)

Q. Why is there a curfew?

A. From security viewpoint and in order to maintain quiet environment during the night, with a few exceptions, most of the front doors of the dormitory close at 12:00 a.m. . Be sure to return to the dormitory by the time the front door closes even when you have a part-time job at night. The curfew is deemed necessary mainly due to the strong insistence on strengthened security from the domestic students and their guarantors.

On the other hand, there are many complaints from the exchange students regarding the curfew after they move in. While the International Office recognizes the differences in opinion and perception, please bear in mind that the security issue is too important and the curfew cannot be removed. In case you think that the curfew is too strict and you cannot possibly keep it,please refer to this page and try to find accommodation on your own.

Q:Can I smoke in the dormitory?

A. In accordance to the Health Promotion Act, to keep the health of non-smokers and to prevent the damages of the second-hand smoke, Rikkyo University has promoted a smoking-free campus. Based on this idea, smoking is prohibited in the dormitories as well. Please note that smoking on the balcony is also prohibited. You will be charged for the cleaning of any wall discoloration caused by smoking.
