Hello families! My name is Yvonne Becker, and I am very excited to be back at Ridgeview for my eighth year as the 6th and 8th grade ELA teacher! I look forward to a great year where your children and I can grow and learn together.
I graduated from Joliet Junior College (Associate of Science Degree), Eastern Illinois University (Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training and Teacher Certification), and Southeast Missouri University (Master of Science Degree in Administration).
My career at Ridgeview is my third career. After receiving my Master's Degree, I worked as a certified athletic trainer (ATC) at Illinois State University for nine years. I retired from ISU and became a stay-at-home mom for five years.
I started covering Football as an ATC at Ridgeview in 2001 and continued to cover sports through 2013. I started subbing in 2011. In the spring of 2013, I was hired as a full-time sub to cover maternity leave for a special education aide. The following year, I was hired as a full-time special education aide. After 3 years in that position, I was hired and worked for 2 years as a full-time sub teaching high school math, health, and elementary special education.
I have enjoyed teaching Reading and English(ELA) full-time for seven years.
I have lived in Colfax for 24 YEARS!!! I am originally from Mokena, IL. Mokena is located about 45 minutes SW of Chicago, but when I was growing up, it was a small farm community like Colfax. Nowadays, though, it is a suburb of Chicago.
I live in Colfax with my husband Brian and our two children, Craig and Anna. My husband Brian owns and operates Becker Tree Service. Craig graduated from Ridgeview last year and is working as an Electrician for CY Electric out of Gibson City. Anna is a freshman at Ridgeview, and she keeps us busy playing volleyball, basketball, and softball, singing in the choir, and playing on a travel softball team.
Class overview
The objective of Junior High ELA courses are to introduce students to a variety of literature through a variety of sources: classroom textbook, specific novels, and online resources. In addition, it is our goal to help students evolve in their writing and grammar skills in order to become more confident and competent writer.
Control the things you can control. When you can not control what is happening, control the way you react to it.
That is your SUPERPOWER!!!
