Welcome

About Me

Hello Ridgeview families! My name is Tracy McCoy, and I am the English teacher for the freshman and sophomore classes. I stepped in mid-year last January, and you may not have gotten a chance to meet me during that very eventful 2nd semester, so I wanted to tell you a little about myself. I did my student teaching at Bloomington High School and then went on to teach for a few years at Morton High School.

I have four children: Ben (20), Bella (19), Samuel (8), and Henry (6). I think my kids are some of the smartest, sweetest, funniest people in the world. My husband, Jason McCoy, is a school librarian and actually used to work at Ridgeview! Finally, I have a cute little dog named Felder. Felder looks like a stuffed animal, and his name means nothing—it’s just a random word Samuel made up. We all reside in Normal and have for the past 10 years or so.

When I'm not at school, I love traveling with my family. We recently got a camper and took that on a few outings this summer. I don't mind roughing it during the day, but I sure love AC and a real bed at night! I am also a HUGE Disney fan. I love visiting the parks on both coasts as well as going on Disney cruises, and I enjoy learning about Disney history.

I don't watch a lot of television, but some of my favorite shows include: American Pickers, The Office, and Impractical Jokers (I even had one of its stars, Joe Gatto, pop into one of our Zoom classes last year!).

I am looking forward to this school year, and I know that no matter what happens, it will be an adventure!

Class Overview

Both freshman and sophomore classes will read a variety of literature this year, including short stories as well as full-length novels. They will compose essays of varying lengths and be expected to present on some topics. We will also study the rules of grammar and learn to apply them to our own writing. The advanced classes will move at an accelerated pace, dive deeper into our readings, and should expect more independent work.

Class Philosophy

In our class, we share our thoughts, feelings, questions, and reactions in a respectful way and without fear of judgement. We take responsibility for our words and our actions.

And this year, we wear masks over our mouths AND noses...
