Hello families! My name is teacher Mr. Chris Metz and I back at Ridgeview Schools for my 20th year teaching math in High School. I started teaching in the 2006-2007 school year. I look forward to getting to see all my students in person. I love watching students grow mathematically.
I graduated from Eastern Illinois University 2006 and later went back over three summers to receive my Master's Degree.
When I'm not teaching math at the High School, I run Theatre Club, Direct the Fall Play and assist with Game Club (or just play).
My wife and I have three boys at home who keep us busy (Theo, Walter, and Benson).
I have been working with Heartland for 8 weeks this summer and Ridgeview will be the first school in the Heartland area to offer students Transition to STEM. This class replaces a student's need to take a college placement test for mathematics.
Math 3 is an extension of our Math 2 class in which the first half of the class is Algebra and the second half is Geometry/Trig. This combination makes sure that students never have a year off from Algebra.
Math 2 class in which the first half of the class is Algebra and the second half is Geometry. This combination completes the first half of Algebra 2 and the first half of Geometry. Students will then take Math 3 the following year to complete those two courses.
Functions; derivative and its applications; integral and its applications; limits and continuity; trigonometric, exponential, logarithmic, and hyperbolic functions. This is an AP-approved course and students enrolled in it will be expected to take the AP exam
I have had so much fun working with students on our shows over the last few years. We are excited once again to get a little creative and start planning. This year the show is It's a Wonderful Life.
Mr. Leinweber and I have had a lot of fun the last few years playing all kinds of games! I'm excited to get back to playing with our High School game club! Is there a game you think we should try out?
I hope that students learn that confidence is often build from experience. Not that we always succeed the first time we try, but we can learn from our successes and our failures. We build a foundation of general knowledge that lets us explore specific instances of mathematics, often hidden, in our world.
Mr. Chris Metz
