Discover the limitless potential of shaping 3-D space! This course combines the exploration of wheel thrown, ceramic pottery with mixed media, hand-built sculpture. In this technical ceramics class, the student will continue to learn the materials, tools, skills, techniques, and products associated with ceramics and tile. Projects will explore a variety of commercial applications and related careers. Then move into a creative process for each project that includes sketches to form ideas and develop design, research and advanced methods throughout the process of creating the final product. 

Mentors

Educational Mentorship is an experiential learning course that provides students with authentic opportunities to develop leadership, communication, collaboration, and professional workplace skills while working alongside a mentor teacher in an educational setting. Students assist with classroom activities, support student learning, observe instructional practices, and complete responsibilities assigned by their mentor teacher. Through career exploration, professional skill development, and weekly reflection, students connect their classroom experience to future education, training, and career pathways while strengthening essential skills such as responsibility, initiative, adaptability, teamwork, and professionalism. 

Cooperative Worksite Learning

• Designed for the more serious art student desiring to further their education after high school. Explore the concept of personal style through design choices similar to AP Studio’s more autonomous curriculum. Students are presented with the concept of a project series in portraiture, landscape, figure and still life. Gain a greater understanding of their strengths and weaknesses while mastering major media and styles. Use art sketchbooks to record their thoughts and idea development gains even greater significance, acting as the student’s laboratory for the creation and exploration of new ideas
