This class is a multi-year program that encourages students to participate in the scientific research community to pursue their research interests. Students attend both large, mixed-grade level classes, as well as individual meetings with their science research teacher. Students also collaborate with a selected mentor; mentors can be, but are not limited to, scientific researchers, university professors, or medical professionals. The science research program has a “Spiral Curriculum” which teaches students the scientific method and reinforces the skills required to design, write, and present scientific research. In early stages, students begin by reading and analyzing scientific articles; said information is then presented to the class. Later on, students complete their research, write a research paper, and present their results at local, regional, and possibly national expositions.
