The VIEWS Index project was jumpstarted by Gallaudet University doctoral student Marc Holmes, CI and CT, NIC, SC:L in Spring 2018. It includes a full list of articles and content in each issue of VIEWS from its inception in 1965 (under a different name) to 1992, and includes author, title, date, issue, and key words for each entry. We are so grateful for Marc’s work on this! To read more about his indexing process, read his VIEWS article here.
In order to make the index searchable and user-friendly for our membership, we have created this catalog where you can specify what you are looking for in each information field, or simply browse available titles. Each title is linked to the corresponding publication in our archive (housed on Google drive). Because we have not yet created individual files for each entry, you will need to navigate to the article you are looking for after being directed to the issue. To directly access the VIEWS archive on Google drive, click here.
This publication represents a rich history of knowledge-sharing in an extremely diverse profession. As an organization, we value the experiences and expertise of interpreters from every cultural, linguistic, and educational background. VIEWS seeks to provide information to researchers and stakeholders about these specialty fields and groups in the interpreting profession. We aim to explore the interpreter’s role within this demanding social and political environment by promoting content with complex layers of experience and meaning.
In this index you will see that VIEWS has evolved throughout the different stages of RID history. It began as “Newsletter” in 1965, then changed to “Interprenews” in 1970, then “InterpreterViews” in 1979, and finally “Views” in 1985 (it briefly changed back to “Interpreter Views” between 1987 and 1989). This catalog can teach us so much about where we have been as an organization and where we are going! We hope you find it of use.
This index is in its beginning stages, ending with the September 1992 issue. We need your help to complete the last 26 years! If you would like to contribute to this indexing project, or if you have any feedback about the index, please contact the RID Communications Team at publications@rid.org
