Where to find the subject in the Library
Information on Biology in general will be found mainly at 570. Books at this number may cover a great variety of aspects of living organisms, both plant and animal. They may range from cell structure and function, the main classification groups, anatomy and physiology of the major systems such as reproduction, and the mechanisms of genetics and heredity, to other aspects of biology like ecology, evolution and diseases. Individual branches of biology will have separate numbers, such as ecology at 577, cells at 571.6, genetics at 576.5, evolution at 576.8, botany at 581 and zoology at 591.
Human biology, which covers the same range of topics in relation to humans only, is at 612. General works on the human body and medicine are at 610.3. Information about biological resources and their conservation is at 333.9. Sociobiology, the study of the biological bases of human behaviour, is at 304.5.
