Hi, my name is Joel Mendoza Gómez, and I´m a PhD student at Rice University. Originally from México City, my research agenda mainly focuses on comparative work around federal developing countries and the dynamics between intra-party politics and comparative institutions. I employ large-n observational data analyses, causal inference and natural experiments.

Before coming to Rice, I completed an MSc in Political Science at CIDE in Mexico City and a BA in International Relations at UNAM, both with honors.

I have teaching experience at the undergraduate level. I have taught and designed syllabi for courses on Africa and the Middle East and Political Economy of Energy at UNAM for undergraduate students.
