Check-out Limits and Due Dates
Pre-K and kindergarten students are not allowed to check out books. However, if a parent would like to do so, the parent must be present and responsible for the book.
Students in 1st and 2nd grades can check out one book weekly during their library time.
Students in 3rd through 5th grades can check out two books bi-weekly during their library time.
Parents can check out seven books for two weeks if no books are on their account. If parents do not have an account with us, please get in touch with the library.
At the end of the school year, any students who withdraw books from Preston Library must return their library books before the last day of attendance. Otherwise, it will be considered as lost.
Renewals
Students in 3rd through 5th grades can renew once or twice unless another student has placed a hold on that particular book. The book must be brought back to the Library to be renewed.
Parents cannot be able to renew; the books must be brought back before or on the due date.
Lost and Damaged Books
We understand that accidents happen. In these cases, we urge students to return the book to the library as soon as possible so the librarian can repair it. We want to ask students or parents to refrain from trying to fix the books at home.
Damage charges may vary based on the book's condition. If a book is damaged beyond repair, the student must replace it before checking out additional books.
If you think your student has lost a book, please ensure it is indeed lost. The library has a form to assist students in locating their missing books. Please don't hesitate to visit and ask for help. However, the cost of book replacement can vary depending on the book. Feel free to email or visit the library to find out the cost.
Overdue Materials
Overdue notices will be sent home periodically to inform students and parents of books that must be turned in. Students may only check out a new book once the overdue book has been returned. Preston Elementary Library does not collect fines for overdue books.
Library Agreement
Parents and students must complete a “Library Agreement” form before borrowing a book from the Preston Library. The form needs to be signed once per academic year. Parents may complete the form in person at the library.
