ONDERSTEUN: Ek ondersteun ander en hulle ondersteun my. Ons help mekaar om te groei en ons doelwitte saam te bereik.
SUPPORT: I support others and they support me. We help one another to grow and reach our goals together.
INKXASO: Ndiyabaxhasa abanye nabo bayandixhasa. Siyancedana ukuze sikhule, sifikelele kwiinjongo zethu.
Understanding the value of support is important in our journey of growing together, but sometimes we may not have the tools or know-how to get started or ensure that we have a good support system in place. It is critical for anyone to have and build a support system with the right people surrounding us to be there when we need help, cheer us on when we need encouragement, or be honest in pointing out our mistakes. Here are some helpful tips to build a strong support system:
Consider joining a sports team or workout group to boost your mood, improve your physical health and give you the opportunity to interact with others.
Review your current social circles and family relationships, then single out the people who offer the most positive but truthful advice.
Be open to the idea of asking for help when you need it and accepting that help as graciously as possible.
Try new activities alone or in groups to introduce you to fresh faces who may provide a positive influence.
Intentionally building a strong support system is an excellent example that our Rusytbugs need to help them navigate life and relationships. What we teach them now sets them up for their future as they encounter challenges and work towards their goals.

Congratulations to Margo Laurie and Belinda Petersen for representing the Metro Central Education District (MCED) at the Provincial National Teaching Awards on Friday, 8th August.
Recently, some of our music staff had a training session on MuseScore.
"The experience was incredibly fun and exciting, completely changing my perspective on music composition. It was a joy to explore the software's capabilities and see my musical ideas instantly come to life on the screen. The interactive nature of the programme made learning feel more like a creative adventure than a traditional lesson. I'm leaving this training feeling inspired and confident in my ability to use MuseScore to compose and arrange music in a dynamic new way".

At our recent I/S Phase Meeting, we reflected on the value of projects, celebrating the skills the girls are developing while also encouraging time for both teacher and learner reflection.
At the FP and the ISP meetings, we explored the Digital Den and Coding & Robotics, sharing ideas on how to integrate skills taught across subjects.
Updates from WCED developmental sessions and Departmental Head meetings highlighted the valuable support available to help us grow our teaching and strengthen assessment practices.
Fawaaz Fataar and Catherine Pike recently received training on our new Clevertouch screen in the newly renovated Digital Bug Hub.
Guided by Arnold Muriva, they explored a range of insightful tips and tricks on how to make the most of this highly efficient, interactive, and collaborative board—an exciting step forward in enhancing teaching and learning at Rustenburg.
This term, our across-phase meeting looked at the important skill of listening and how we incorporate this into all other learning areas. Mr Ryklieff started us off by showing us how to use EdPuzzle, making use of any YouTube video and turning it into a listening comprehension. He even took us back in time, where we listened to 'Squad Cars!'
Mrs Jackson and Ms Manuel showcased how we can incorporate listening and speaking skills into History and Geography, and how the Grade 6 project linked wonderfully with their excursion to District Six. Finally, Mrs Barrish-Liddle showed us all her wonderful listening tricks she uses in the science lab, along with some Brain Gym listening exercises and even some listening in Maths to activate all these important listening pathways. Our biggest takeaway from the day was to continue making learning engaging!

Thursday Tea with the Depu-T is an opportunity for me to connect with the Grade 7 girls in a relaxed manner over a cup of tea and a biscuit.
Every second Thursday, eight Grade 7 girls are chosen randomly to have an opportunity to chat about anything related to themselves and/or RGJS – it must be noted that this is not an opportunity for the girls to spill the proverbial T…
Tea with the Depu-T was a delightful catch-up with our fabulous Grade 7 girls! We shared laughs, stories, and some lovely insights about what they cherish most at RGJS. The clear favourite? Our amazing school library — a huge shoutout to Mrs Wates for the magic she creates in that special space. 📚✨
As we wrapped up, I reminded the girls that while the end of their primary school journey is in sight, now’s the time to finish strong. Let’s make these last months count — with heart, hustle, and a little sprinkle of RGJS sparkle! 🌟
The Grade 6 girls had a very special visit from the SPCA this week. The speakers explained the important work the organisation does in caring for, protecting and rescuing animals in need. From dogs and cats to farm animals and even horses, the SPCA ensures that all creatures are treated with kindness and respect.
The learners listened to touching rescue stories, including the remarkable tale of Fantasia, a racehorse who survived against all odds and went on to find a loving forever home. The girls were inspired to hear how so many animals are given a second chance through adoption.
The SPCA team also shared about the hard work of their inspectors. These brave men and women carry out site visits to check on the welfare of animals. Sometimes the situations they face are heartbreaking, leaving even the inspectors in tears, but their dedication often leads to animals being rescued just in time and placed into happy, loving homes.
Another important lesson was about the need to have pets spayed or neutered. The SPCA explained how the overpopulation of cats and dogs leads to suffering for stray animals and creates challenges in our communities.
Finally, the girls learned that the SPCA receives no government funding and relies completely on the kindness of the public. Donations of cash or goods (such as food, blankets, or toys) are always welcome and go directly towards helping animals in need.
The Grade 6s left the talk with a deeper understanding of animal welfare and the role we can all play in helping animals live safe, happy lives.
On Saturday, 16th August, RGJS proudly hosted the 2025 Student Teacher Conference.
Guest speakers included the CEO of SACE, Ella Mokgalane; Operations Manager of Teachers Plus, Lindelwa Mini; CEO of NAPTOSA, Riedwaan Ahmed; and Metro Central Circuit Manager, Donovan Cleophas — just a few of the incredible leaders who engaged with the students during the conference.
Feedback received from students after the conference.
"Thank you for a wonderful conference. I thoroughly enjoyed the insightful speakers and advice received for practical things to do for various things in class".
"Thank you so much to all the organisers and speakers for an amazing student teacher conference, I feel so lucky to have been able to attend and I can’t wait for the next one".
"Thank you so much for creating a platform for student teachers. We appreciate it. I would have loved to have attended something like this in my first year. Glad I got the opportunity in my final year".
Thank you to the RGJS Student Conference organising committee!
Hungry for change? Fill in the survey from Caffe Primo and help us improve the lunch shop menu!
Please complete this FORM if you can assist at the Stop & Drop in the morning from 07:20 - 07:50.
Gentle reminder:
Please have all bags ready to exit the car if you use the Stop & Drop Bays. Getting out of your car and walking your daughter to the gate causes major congestion for other parents waiting to drive into the Stop & Drop Bay. It also causes congestions for other road users.
Please think of others; be kind and courteous at all times.
MUSIC
In the first week of August, twenty of our Rustybugs took part in the Jan van Riebeeck Arts Festival which was held at Hoërskool Jan van Riebeeck.
Representing piano, voice, flute and cello, they flew the RGJS flag high.
Our learners received wonderful feedback and they all scored in the highest category - Gold.
Congratulations, girls!
Our Grade 4 music learners got heads bopping, feet tapping and everyone cheering at Tuesday's Grade 4 Concert.
With a total of 43 items, it's clear to see that this is a grade with immense talent.
Thank you, Grade 4's, for giving your all.
We are so proud of you!

I don’t know about you, but Term 3 has felt like a hamster wheel - go-go-go!
Even though we haven’t had any official races this term, the Monday numbers have grown, which means we must be doing something right! The sessions are well thought out with a “games” plan that keeps things fun. The girls are working hard without even realising it, clever right?
Friday, 08 August
We had a fantastic relay session at UCT. The girls were divided into mixed-age teams, which gave the older girls a lovely opportunity to welcome and guide the younger girls. The sun was out, and the good weather definitely added a sparkle to everyone’s Friday mood.
Saturday, 16 August
It was a classic winter’s day, cold and wet underfoot. While the U11 to U13 age groups luckily managed to dodge the rain, the U9 and U10 girls weren’t so lucky.
This year, all the age groups started their races together, boys and girls combined. That made for a fast and challenging start, not easy! It was a proper cross-country course, twists and turns, ups and downs, thick grass, slippery patches, filled with nerves and energy. The Rustybugs were smiling at the end from the relief of having finished.
Cross Country Girls (Monday and Friday girls), you have no idea how proud Coach Kathleen, Ms Davison, Mrs Jackson and Ms Banks are of every one of you!
GOOD LUCK to the Rustybugs taking part in the Inter Schools Cross Country event tomorrow at Rustenburg Girls’ High School.
