UBUBELE: Ndinobubele. Ndenza ngaphezu kokulindelekileyo. Ndinika ndabelane ngesisa kungalindelekanga.
VRYGEWIGHEID: Ek is vrygewig van gees. Ek loop die ekstra myl. Ek gee en deel vrylik wanneer ander dit die minste verwag.
GENEROSITY: I am generous in spirit. I go the extra mile. I give and share freely when others may least expect it.
Tomorrow we shall commemorate a significant day in our country's history - 9 August 1956. This was a day that women campaigned to bring an end to pass laws enforced at the time. The march included standing outside the prime minister's office in silence for about 30 minutes before they began to sing "Now you have touched the women, you have struck a rock" (translated).
Women's Day acknowledges the role that women play in all spheres of society and celebrates women (and girls) of all backgrounds, races and cultural groups. It reminds us of the courage and strength of those women 68 years ago and this is the same courage and strength we encourage in our Rustybugs today. It may not be that they will all have opportunities to do "great" things, but it is to teach them through our stories, encouragement and modelling that they can learn to make a difference doing "small" things too.
I wish all the women and girls of our Rustenburg community a wonderful Women's Day, and may everyone enjoy the long weekend!

Please have a look here for more details. The lecture is delivered in person. A link will be shared for virtual attendance as well.
On Friday, July 12th, our Grade Rs reached a big milestone: 100 days of school! To celebrate, we all wore our favourite pyjamas and brought our cuddly toys. We watched a movie, enjoyed yummy treats, sipped on hot chocolate, and even got to see a magic show! The highlight of the day was decorating our very own "100" cookies—it was messy, delicious, and so much fun. It was truly the best day ever! 🍪✨
On Monday 29th July, we had the incredible pleasure of having Amy Rusch speak to our Rustybugs in assembly. Amy is a Rustenburg Alumnae and multidisciplinary artist renowned for her unique approach to art. Using stitched threads and layers of found plastic bags, she creates stunning visual and aural expressions that reflect our modern culture. Amy shared her fascinating journey with our Rustybugs, emphasizing the power of recycling and the art of transforming waste materials into something extraordinary. 🌍♻️ Her talk, "A Story of Being Generous with Time - How I Use Waste Materials for Making," was truly inspiring and offered our learners a new perspective on sustainability and creativity.
A huge thank you to Amy for coming back to inspire and enlighten us! 🙌💚
On Monday we had the the honour of welcoming old Rustybug Alumnae, Professor Robyn Woollands, as the guest speaker at our assembly. Robyn attended Rustenburg Junior and Rustenburg High, Cape Town before moving to New Zealand.
She shared her inspiring journey, from earning degrees in physics, astronomy, and aerospace engineering to working as a mission design engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). At JPL, Robyn contributed to the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and JAXA’s Hayabusa2 mission, led a research project on low-thrust trajectory optimization tools, and worked on the Europa Lander mission concept and Mars mission studies. The Rustybugs were thrilled to embark on a journey to space with her as she recounted her adventures and achievements.
Her key message to our Rustybugs was to know that it's okay to DREAM BIG, THE SKY IS NOT THE LIMIT; YOU CAN GO BEYOND THE STARS! All they need to do is work hard, but not to forget to have fun!
Robyn’s journey from our classrooms to the stars was truly inspirational. Thank you so much for empowering us to reach for our dreams! 🌟💪✨

Mathematics Curriculum Online
We are excited that our school is continuing to use Maths Curriculum Online (MCO) in order to support our Grade 3 to 7 learners in MASTERING MATHS. Explore Green Shoots Maths platform with your child who has been given a unique username and password. This year the WCED are highlighting the benefits of MCO anytime, anywhere and on any device for learners.
There is an addition to the platform, MCO– PARENT SPACE. Resources and guides are now available in Parent Space to help parents/guardians support their children to use MCO at home.
Access the Parent Space with resources, tips and guides in isiXhosa, Afrikaans and English, through your child's username and password. One can also see how practice at home builds on learning at school. You will be able to see your child’s real-time progress and goals in their MCO Learner Report.
We really hope that PARENT SPACE will enable you to play an even greater role in helping your child master Maths this year!

Thank you to the Grade 3 Team for the inspiring story and message they shared with the Foundation Phase - The Clean Up Crusaders
Our Grade 2 girls have been buzzing with excitement as they dive into learning about people and jobs in our community. Recently, we had special visits from a paramedic and a security officer who shared some amazing insights into their work.
They told us all about working at night and the various dangers they face. We also got to learn about the cool equipment they use and how we can help our families stay safe. But the absolute highlight? Seeing the lights and sirens on the response car! The girls were thrilled!
On Wednesday 31 July, 28 teams competed for the top spot in the 130 Quiz Night held at Rustenburg Girls' High School. Belinda Petersen and Michael Gates were the Quiz Masters and the first prize went to the 50 Shades of Grey Matter, a team from RGJS!

Smartphone Free Childhood Movement – an invitation to get involved!
A group of local parents have started a South Africa chapter of the worldwide Smartphone Free Childhood Movement which sprung up in the UK in February 2024. Technology presents many incredible benefits and opportunities, but how best do we navigate it at this critical stage of our children’s development?
There is a huge body of research indicating that smartphone usage in youngsters is linked with poor mental health, drops in academic performance and diminished social well-being.
Join us in exploring ways to delay giving smartphones to kids, put off social media access until age-appropriate, get phones out of schools, and encourage independent, unstructured play in the real world.
Childhood is too short to spend it behind a screen! We need collective action to change the social norm and invite you on this pioneering journey. More than 800 SA parents and 40 local schools have joined the initiative since its launch on Friday 19 July!
Join the Rusty Bug WhatsApp group of concerned, supportive and like-minded parents via THIS LINK to be part of this movement.

Liza Clifford Professional Bra Fitting Studio specialises in the fitting process so that purchasing bras is easier. We know that when a teen is fitted properly the way she sees her body is so different. The wrong bra affects the way she dresses and the way she views her body versus her peers. Wearing the wrong sports bra directly impacts her confidence when choosing a sport and that is if she chooses to be active or not. Some girls aren’t even aware that they don’t play sport because of their lack of support.
Liza Clifford sees the benefit of the correct bra and wants to make it easier for parents to support their teens at this very important developmental stage. We offer all teens under 20 20% off their purchases with a free fitting.
Invest in your teen’s confidence by booking a fitting at our Tokai or Tygervalley studios by clicking on this link
