Gun Violence
Did you know one of the most used firearms is the AR-15, this firearm is commonly used for mass shootings. Gun violence is all over the world and has been around for decades. This is a big problem especially in Albuquerque, New Mexico which is rated as having the highest rate of gun violence. This is something I, myself, didn't know until I began researching the issue. How can a firearm this strong, a AR-15 shooting 900 rounds per minute, be obtained by a normal citizen?
Some physical trauma you might come across when going through gun violence would be headaches, a racing heart, or being easily startled or frightened. Some mental or emotional trauma you might experience are , hopelessness, panic and anxiety, mood swings, and an overwhelming crushing feeling. Gun violence and trauma link back with one another. This trauma has a negative effect on our communities because traumatized people do not live normal lives. The trauma may manifest as actions which could hurt the person or others around them. Either way, these people are all victims of gun abuse.
In december 7 2023 there were around 40,167 deaths because of gun violence that equals to 180 deaths each day. 22,506 suicides in 1 year. There are a mix of people who die within all those numbers over 1,306 are young teens and 276 deaths are children. Within mass shootings there were 656, we decreased a little over 8% in the year 2023 to the difference in 2021 where our number of deaths were 689 in a mass shootings. As you can see this is a very serious topic. Teens and children all over the world who know won't even experience the joy of life. This is also devastating to the families who will never experience their child grow up and have children of their own and be there for them when they are in tough situations.
