As a Substitute Teacher and Educational Assistant, I support classroom instruction and student learning across multiple subjects, including Spanish and Culinary Arts. I also lead and support an advisory class, where I help guide students academically and personally. My role involves stepping in for teachers, assisting with lessons, and providing additional support to students who need extra help, while creating a positive and structured learning environment.
I currently have my Educational Assistant Level 3 License as well as my Substitute License. I'm also enrolled at CNM, furthering my education to obtain my Associate's Degree in Secondary Education.
My Teaching Journey: Two Influential Experiences
RLA was my first daycare job, where I worked with toddlers and infants as both a Pre-K teacher and a teacher assistant, and played a major role in shaping my career path. Before this experience, I planned to pursue a career in nursing. However, working closely with young children helped me realize that my passion was truly in the field of education. This experience was meaningful because it allowed me to build strong connections with the children and see the direct impact I had on their learning and development. I found fulfillment in helping them reach small milestones, whether it was learning new words, improving behavior, or gaining independence. As a result, I realized that I wanted to pursue a career where I could continue working with students and supporting their learning. This experience ultimately led me to change my field from nursing to education, where I can make a positive difference in students’ lives.
Moving to New Mexico opened new opportunities for me, including working at RFK Charter High School. Being part of this school and working alongside such a supportive and dedicated staff motivated me even more to pursue my education in the teaching field. The environment at RFK showed me what it means to truly support students not just academically, but also personally.
One of my biggest inspirations was our math teacher, Marc Lowther. His passion for teaching, patience with students, and commitment to helping them succeed made a strong impression on me. Seeing the way he connects with students and encourages them to keep trying, even when things are difficult, reinforced my desire to become an educator.
This experience helped me grow professionally and personally, and it confirmed that I am on the right path. Working at RFK Charter High School has strengthened my commitment to education and inspired me to continue working toward becoming a teacher.
