Pre-K Art

Projects Expectations:

My goal is to provide students with fun, creative projects to help exercise the Right side of the brain and to off set all of the screen time! The assignments are chunked into "Parts" My expectation is for students to do at least ONE "Part" a week in a 30 minute sitting. Of course students can put more into it IF they want. I will be grading finished projects to give the students credit for their hard work and amazing talents. If you are still wanting more, feel free to check out other grade levels. You might see something to inspire you there as well.

IF YOU ARE JUST SEEING THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME: No big deal, relax. Just work at a pace that makes it fun for you. When you do get it done please send me a pic to my email. mruppert@resstpaul.org

Enjoy the process! I am happy to answer any questions. Stay Well, Mrs. Ruppert

Art through literature-Should I Share My Ice Cream?

Begin by watching this fun video, a dilemma about sharing! I loved the voices-they made me laugh!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNsiRRjhIws

Materials: White base paper, Colored construction paper, glue, scissors. If you do not have constriction paper you can hunt for the colors you need in magazines or used cards. Another idea is to color areas of paper with crayons.

Part I-Students need to draw a triangle for the base of their ice cream on a brown colored paper. Have student carefully cut out the triangle and glue it to the white base paper. Next, student can draw circles on top of the cone for each scoop of ice cream. One-three scoops would be great!

Using glue or glue stick put down glue inside the first circle. Choose the first "flavor" or colored paper and tear little pieces off put them into the pre-glued circle. (Helpful hint-dampen a paper towel and fold it up. Have your student rub their finger of the wet towel then gently touch paper piece. It helps pick up the paper while keeping little fingers clean,)

This is a good place to pause if you want to break project up into two sessions.

Place papers in zip lock bag for later.

Part II or continue on- Finish glueing you ice cream colors. When done think of topping, Whipped cream could be cotton or white paper. Sprinkle could be beads or small torn paper, add a cherry or chocolate chips, chocolate sause

-Good heavens now I am hungry!!

Part III- a fun follow up activity, students can try their hand at drawing the pig and the elephant eating their ice creams but together and on the top of the drawing have them write the word SHARING! Have a discussion to see what your child's choice would be.

Please have student write name and grade on paper.

Art through Literature: A Fish Out of Water.

Begin by watching this hilarious video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snOd65lRvhE

Materials: Piece of white paper, pencil (I drew mine in sharpie so you can see it. You can always use a sharpie after, but you don't need to) crayons, crayola markers, paintbrush, cup of water, string or yarn or pipe cleaner.

Part I: Let us get our drawing started! Start with a shape that looks like an eye. Draw two lines out the end for the tail. Finish off your tail line, add triangles for fins, add face line, add eyes, mouth, eyebrows. Finally, draw a bag around your fish.

Part II: Next, get your crayons! I made my head, fins, and tail different color orange then my body. Crayola markers next, I used two different blues and colored in the water, not all the way-leaving some white. With a wet paintbrush, blend your markers. Carefully cut out the bag. Wrap string, ribbon, yarn or pipe cleaner around neck of bag- so the water won't leak out!

Now remember: Don't feed your fish too much! Send me a pick, I'd love to see your work!!

Rainbow Art Gallery-Awesome Job: Arietta, Sydney

Art at Home: Rainbow colors and fine motor skills-cutting practice.

Begin by listening to Dolly Parton sing about a rainbow. What colors make up the rainbow?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA4zViUbH8c

Materials: White and black paper, crayola markers, cup of water and a paintbrush, crayon or pencil, glue stick, scissors.

Part I- Starting with a red marker color a strip from the top to the bottom of your paper. Do the same thing using orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

Part II- Dip your paint brush in to the water and gently blend red and orange together. Next, blend orange and yellow. Work only two side by side colors at a time. Continue until all of the colors have been blended and let dry.

Part III- Have an adult draw 5 different lines on the back for you to cut. (Tight zig-zag v lines would be too challenging for this age group, see sample above. Take your scissors and carefully cut along the first line. I think it is fun to cut out all the lines then try to put the puzzle back!! When you are done playing glue your pieces to the black paper leaving a little black in between. How does it look? I makes me thing of a Navajo Blanket! BEAUTIFUL!

Send me a pic of your masterpiece!

Dino Dough Fun! Sydney

Art at Home: Art through Literature "Dinosaurumpus" If this seems too stressful move to next assignment.

Art at Home: Students will read about all sorts of dinosaurs creating all sorts of noise! Next, they will create their own dinosaur fossil using a salt dough recipe.

Begin by watching the read along: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6DHtnltHKs

Materials: plastic dinosaur, sea shells, sharks teeth, crayola markers or watercolors, cup water, brush.

Salt Dough recipe: 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 1/2-3/4 cup of warm water. Air dry for several days or bake on lowest setting for 1-2 hours.

Begin by taking a look at some crazy dinosaurs! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6DHtnltHKs

Part I: Help an adult measure and mix your salt dough. Find some dinosaurs. Break off a fist sized portion and roll into a big ball. Flatten it out a bit. Make an impression of your dinosaur by pressing the body into the dough. (I had to do it a couple times to get it just right!) I had some sharks teeth so I pressed them too. You could also press the dinos footprints into the dough. Make as many as you want-they make great paper weights! Have an adult bake it in the oven for an hour.

Part II: Using crayola markers or watercolors color your "dino fossil" If you are using markers, take a wet paint brush and blend the marker strokes to cover all the white dough.

Now it's time to celebrate! Swing your arms, thump your feet, swing your tail to the dinosaur beat!
