Dr. Hicks grew up on a farm in central Illinois, where he learned to value both self-discipline and the beauty of rustic simplicity. He developed a love for Greek and Latin during his college years at Asbury University in Wilmore, KY, which blossomed into a Master's degree from the Department of Classics at the University of Florida and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, writing upon Horace’s two books of Satires. Dr. Hicks has enjoyed teaching Latin at Founders Classical Academy for the past seven years, where he is known for his interest in relational wisdom. In his spare time, Dr. Hicks enjoys running outdoors, hiking, listening to and playing music, playing strategy games of all varieties, and practicing the ancient Epicurean concept of emotional tranquility (ataraxia) by sitting peacefully in a chair with a book in his lap and a purring cat nearby.
