Teaching is in Mr. Carter’s blood. He began teaching music theory and performance while attending high school, then tutored academics in middle and high schools in the Lewisville Independent School District during his undergraduate studies. Mr. Carter continued to tutor and teach music throughout his graduate studies until he took on a full-time teaching position. He has taught math, science, history, literature, logic, and philosophy at the secondary level. Even throughout his time as an administrator, Mr. Carter has always taught at least one class or tutored whenever possible. He served as the Dean of the Upper School for a year, and Assistant Headmaster for two years, at Founders Classical Academy of Mesquite. Mr. Carter is thrilled to serve as Headmaster at Tyler Classical Academy and to be a part of the growing classical education movement.
Mr. Carter holds a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of North Texas and a Master of Philosophy from the University of Dallas. He has previously served as Senator in the Braniff Graduate Student Association, is a member of both the American Philosophical Association and the North Texas Philosophical Association, and has presented on medieval philosophy and theology in the NTPA. Mr. Carter enjoys writing and performing music, sports, and weightlifting. As Plato’s Socrates says, “The man who makes the finest mixture of gymnastic with music and brings them to his soul in the most proper measure is the one of whom we would most correctly say that he is the most perfectly...harmonized.” Mr. Carter moved from DFW to Tyler in 2020 with his wife, Anna-Marie, and his daughter, Amelia.
