Richard Yarde is an artist who likes to use watercolor paint to create pictures of people dancing. Richard Yarde almost always begins his painting by laying down blocks of color.
He thinks that his idea to paint blocks is inspired by looking at and playing with the blocks he used to play with when he was a little boy.
Richard Yarde’s mother gave him his first set of watercolor paints when he was very young. He remembers working as a child on the dining room table. He remembers that his big brother used to draw and paint over old maps. He drew “a lot of volcanoes.”
Now Richard Yarde is well known for his very large water color paintings that glow with color and show lots of movement. He says painting puts him into a space for thinking and that most of his work comes from some kind of personal experience, like having fun dancing with his friends.
Richard Yarde liked to paint things that made him feel happy.
What things make you feel happy?
Today we are going to draw things that make us happy, just like Richard Yarde.
