Faith Ringgold was born in Harlem ,N Y in 1930. She is world famous for her storyquilts.
A quilt is a covering made of many pieces of fabric sewn together to make a new blanket.
A story quilt is a painted quilt that has a written and illustrated story.She was influenced to use quilts as a medium for her paintings after hearing her mother’s stories of her enslaved ancestors, who made quilts as part of their plantation duties.
Tar Beach, a quilt painting that incorporates a written story, is from her Woman on a bridge series, which she completed in 1988.
