Club membership is a wonderful part of student life at CNU. However, within any organization there is the potential that unhealthy dynamics can develop across the organization, that conflicts may arise between individual members, or that an event may occur that is not in line with the club or organization's charter, CNU's code of conduct, or your personal values. Below are resources that can help you if any such events are occurring within a club or organization you belong to on campus:
If you are experiencing a personal conflict with another member of your club, you may consider making an appointment to speak with a counselor at CNU's Office of Counseling Services. The Office of Counseling Services is a free and confidential resource for students located in the Freeman Center. They can help you come up with a plan for how to communicate your concerns effectively with this person.
They are available for appointments during business hours M-F. It's easy to set up an appointment to meet with a counselor-- just call 757-594-7047 or even walk in. You can learn more about the Office of Counseling Services here.
If your concern is not just between a few members, but rather is about the culture of the club, an unhealthy dynamic, or activities that go against the club's charter or CNU's code of conduct, the best resource to reach out to is the Office of Student Activities. They are located in the DSU, suite 330, and can also be reached by phone at 757-594-7260 or by email at osa@cnu.edu. They will listen and determine how to engage club leadership to address your concerns.
If you are concerned that discrimination is occurring within the club, either between individual members or as a larger dynamic, contact our Director of Title IX and Equal Opportunity at 757-594-8819 or by email at titleixeo@cnu.edu. While the name of this office may sound intimidating, don't be scared to reach out. Ensuring that students are being treated with respect is an essential value of our campus community, and any concerns about discrimination will be looked into.
