In the Creative Labs, we have a Bosch Jigsaw. The jigsaw is great for:
Cutting multiple materials
Cutting in a non-straight line or following a shape.
Key Things to Remember:
1) Make sure you have safety goggles to use this tool
2) Make sure you wear an apron and tie up your long hair
3) Secure the material you are cutting using clamps for safety.
Jigsaw for Beginners
You can watch the videos below to learn all of the features of a Jigsaw.
Your First Learning Task
Using a scrap piece of thin MDF wood, your first learning task is to practice using the jigsaw. Using a pencil, draw a basic shape like a circle or a letter and then clamp the wood to a surface. Make sure the cutting area is clear below the blade and then start to cut and follow the line. Use the tips and safe working practices explored in the videos above to help you master this tool. Check with your teacher before cutting.
Once you have practiced using the jigsaw and your teacher is happy you can use it safely, you should be ready to use it for more complex projects. Some key learning points:
1) Always use the correct safety equipment. (wear safety goggles and an apron, tie your long hair back, dust mask and ear defenders are optional for this tool).
2) Secure the wood that you are cutting using clamps or vices.
3) Make sure the cutting line is marked, the area underneath the wood is clear and the electric cable is away from the cutting area.
4) Start the blade using the on switch and slowly and carefully move the blade with the cutting line you have marked. Take your time, don't force the saw, and stop when you need to take a break.
5) Clean up - Vacuum and tidy away the tool properly after use. Always Recharge the battery after use.
