It is tempting to think of history as happening elsewhere, as stories of other people and other places. But, every person and place is involved in the historical account.
As we enter black history month, the story of segregation in America and the Civil Rights Movement that helped overcome that struggle will be remembered and told to students. That story tends to center around the struggles in the American South. However, segregation was a reality all over America, even here in Redlands.
This story map was put together by a team at the University of Redlands several years ago to help tell the story of segregation in Redlands and the changes that have come about in our own city due to the work of Civil Rights activists who have helped to shape laws and culture within America.
