Teaching Roles & Status

CLASS COVERAGE
The minimum participation requirement for each session is at least 3 teachers. If you want to join a certain class because you are interested in the topic, feel free to do it, the more, the merrier!

STATUS:

SESSION OWNER: Lead the session (Minimum 1 per session)
SESSION ASSIST: Support the session Owner (Minimum 2 per session) These can take the following tasks:
- THESE ROLE ARE REQUIRED:
  - SESSION ASSIST (ATTENDANCE TRACKER): Support and track attendance
  - SESSION ASSIST (FEEDBACK SUBMITTER): Support and gather feedback discussed after the class in the Feedback Dashboard and the Slack Channel if possible
  - THIS ROLE IS NOT REQUIRED, BUT :
- SESSION ASSIST (SUPPORT): You will join and support the class when needed, there is no designated task, unless the Session Assist with designated tasks can't make it
AVAILABLE: NOT assigned to assist, but can be contacted as BACKUP
NOT AVAILABLE: NOT able to support

Session Owner

THIS ROLE IS REQUIRED

BEFORE THE CLASS

Coordinate with the session assistant at least one day in advance (a Slack bot reminder will be set up).
Ensure all materials for the session are prepared and ready.
Check the task details by reviewing the Feedback section in the Course Sheet or by checking the Slack channel.
Consult with the team for feedback on the session's materials.
If there’s any uncertainty about the homework, consult the teachers who attended the previous class.
Review communication channels for any questions.

DURING THE CLASS

Distribute course materials and clearly explain key concepts.
Facilitate hands-on practice exercises for the class.
Share homework assignments with learners.
Review homework from the previous session, if necessary.
Present and guide students through the course material.

AFTER THE CLASS

Stay for 15 minutes to debrief with the other teachers.
Provide feedback to the Teacher Assistant (Feedback Submitter), or submit it directly to the Feedback Dashboard if preferred.
Share the homework assignment in the Slack channel.
Upload all class materials to the course hub after each session.

Session Assist (Attendance Tracker)

THIS ROLE IS REQUIRED

BEFORE THE CLASS

Designated either before or at the start of the class.
Support the Session Owner with homework exercises (suggest, share, and follow up on exercises).
Check the task details by reviewing the Feedback section in the Course Sheet or by checking the Slack channel.
If there’s any uncertainty about the homework, consult the teachers who attended the previous class.
Review communication channels for any questions.

DURING THE CLASS

Support the Session Owner with homework exercises (suggest, share, follow up).
Track Attendance: How to track attendance?: Rules and Technical steps
1. Ideally, track attendance 15 minutes after class starts or after the break.
2. Check the Slack channel for learners who are notified they will be absent.
Monitor students engagement & interaction
1. Keep an eye on live questions or chat (for online classes).
2. Ensure each student has the opportunity to ask questions and receive responses.
3. Assist in managing groups (for onsite classes) or breakout rooms (for online classes).
4. Help students during hands-on practice in class.
  
  AFTER THE CLASS

Stay for 15 minutes to debrief with the other teachers (no need to collect feedback).

Session Assist (Feedback Submitter)

THIS ROLE IS REQUIRED

BEFORE THE CLASS

Designated either before or at the start of the class.
Support the Session Owner with homework exercises (suggest, share, and follow up on exercises).
Check the task details by reviewing the Feedback section in the Course Sheet or by checking the Slack channel.
If there’s any uncertainty about the homework, consult the teachers who attended the previous class.

Monitor students engagement & interaction
- Keep an eye on live questions or chat (for online classes).
- Ensure each student has the opportunity to ask questions and receive responses.
- Assist in managing groups (for onsite classes) or breakout rooms (for online classes).
- Help students during hands-on practice in class.

AFTER THE CLASS

Stay for 15 minutes to discuss the course with the other teachers.
Collect and document all feedback.
Gather feedback in the Course Sheet.
Ideally, share feedback in the Slack Teachers Team Channel using the bot.

Session Assist (Support)

THIS ROLE DOES NOT HAVE AN SPECIFIC TASK

BEFORE THE CLASS

Support the Session Owner with the homework exercises (suggest exercises, share, do a follow-up)
Check what the task involves by reviewing the Feedback section in the Course Sheet or checking the Slack Channel.
If there is any doubt or uncertainty about the home practice, feel free to ask the teachers who attended the previous class for clarification.
Review channels where the home practice should be delivered: Slack, Google Classroom, via Email, or during the class.

DURING THE CLASS
