AP Capstone @ Cab Calloway School of the Arts

Welcome to the AP CAPSTONE PROGRAM! Beginning in 2019-2020, Cab Calloway School of the Arts will implement the AP Capstone Program.

Why Capstone?

  • Fosters the research, argumentation, and communication skills that are at the core of college readiness and essential for lifelong learning
  • Provides a setting to build on the knowledge and rigorous course work of AP in an interdisciplinary format
  • Offers students a unique opportunity to distinguish themselves to colleges and universities

What Is AP Capstone?

AP Capstone™ is a College Board program that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills that are increasingly valued by colleges. It cultivates curious, independent, and collaborative scholars and prepares them to make logical, evidence-based decisions.

AP Capstone is comprised of two AP courses — AP Seminar and AP Research — and is designed to complement and enhance the discipline-specific study in other AP courses. Cab Calloway School of the Arts will use the AP Capstone program to provide unique research opportunities for our current AP students, and to expand access to AP by encouraging students to master the argument-based writing skills that the AP Capstone program develops.

Our goal is to create opportunities for more students at Cab Calloway to be prepared for advanced level course work.

Cab Calloway School of the Arts, one of approximately 1,500+ schools worldwide offering the AP Capstone program, implemented AP Capstone beginning in the 2019-2020 school year by offering the AP Seminar course to 10th grade students as their English course, and in the first year of implementation, to 11th grade students as their English course as well.

The AP Research course will be available during the 2020-2021 school year to students who completed the AP Seminar course.
