Walking School Bus
DID YOU KNOW?
Walking is a learned behaviour. If children are driven everywhere they will expect to be driven. The more you walk, the more likely you are to walk – to the shops, to a friend’s house, to the beach. People who get into good exercise habits in childhood are more likely to grow into healthy adults.
We would like to resurrect our Walking School Buses walking to Red Beach School in the mornings. If you would like to join one or maybe even start your own please contact either the office with your details or email Mrs O’Reilly (room 1) on firstname.lastname@example.org
Make sure you keep an eye on the school newsletter and watch for details of a coffee morning to discuss Walking School Bus options.
We have a Time Zone map that was drawn up a few years ago with the help of students and teachers at the school and Auckland Transport. It shows how long it takes to walk from different locations in the school zone. This was done with range of children from New Entrants to Year 6 to work out the average distance and time taken walking to school.
