Sidestrand Hall School
Introduction
In collaboration with Rob Coleman, Senior Partnerships and Programming Officer at the National Trust, HomeSounds has been delivering unique sound walk experiences with young people from Sidestrand Hall School in Norfolk.
Once a month during term time we travel to a different location in Norfolk, seeking out sound and focusing on a different theme.
Braving all weathers, using an array of listening equipment, and with dedicated teamwork we explore the physical and acoustic habitats of our chosen site, discuss what we are hearing, make audio recordings, chat, help each other and draw on all the benefits of fresh air in our lungs, the sights and sounds of nature, and the physical effort of negotiating marsh, field, beach, hill, path and track.
Our efforts and experiences are often shared through the HomeSounds Show, which provides a focus for our listening as well as an opportunity for learning before and afer each trip.
Sidestrand Hall School is a special provision for students aged 7-19 with a diverse range of learning difficulties. The school's aim is to support the student's development and independence, ensure each child can excel, reach their full potential and is equipped and prepared for the next stage of their life.
