Welcome to 7th grade English Language Arts! This year in ELA, students will be challenged with six different units of reading and writing workshops. A positive attitude!
A typical day in room 204 may look something like this:
Walk in, check the board for what should be out on students' desks
Word Study practice *only done on days where classes meet twice a day
Family Meeting: daily check-ins, life updates, etc.
Begin mini-lesson, go over the objective
Reading/Writing Practice: students have the time to work on the skill we are learning
Literacy groups: students will have time to practice the skill from mini-lesson
Small strategy groups, one-on-one conferencing
As a middle schooler, there are a lot of responsibilities that you have to learn to balance. While I want to make ELA a fun and interactive experience for all, we cannot achieve this if we do not follow these expectations:
Respect each other: This includes myself and yourself as well. I will respect you and treat you the way you wish to be treated and I expect you all to do the same. This means, listening during instruction, raising your hand/waiting your turn, and being kind to one another. When everyone shows respect, everyone is comfortable. When everyone is comfortable, we have more room for fun!
Try your best: School is not about getting everything right all the time, it is about putting in the effort to try! When I see the dedication in your work and your well-being, I see a student who cares. So even if you are not 100% sure of your answer, still raise your hand! Give it a go! You might have a perspective that I never thought of before...
Raise your hand and your expectations: As a 7th grader, you are learning how to juggle new responsibilities and I am confident that you are able to meet these expectations. Always remember to raise your hand when you have something to add to our discussions, I want to hear from you, just not all at once!
