When someone is telling you about their problems there is always a part of you that just wants to “fix it”. However, as a counselor I've learned that the most fruitful outcomes come from slowing down and just being curious about what is there. I have many mental health tools and experience, but I don't consider myself “the expert in the room”. Only you are the expert of your story. I consider myself a person walking alongside and guiding you in the counseling process.
My style tends to be accepting, empathetic and client-centered. Tools that I use include narrative processing, mindfulness, vagus nerve relaxation techniques, self-compassion, and somatic experiencing. These tools are meant to deepen insight and processing in addition to providing you with self-soothing techniques to ease tension and suffering. Some clients benefit from an open space to process and others need a more structured approach. We will collaborate on goals and figure out how you can get the most out of the space.
I hold an MA in Mental Health Counseling from NMSU and I have been in practice as an outpatient therapist for four years. Prior to working in outpatient, I worked as a group therapist in inpatient settings and as a responder at the Lifeline (988). I am level-one trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and I have 10+ years of experience working with the LGBTQ+ and Latine population.
