"Life creates the conditions conducive to life."
-Dr Janine Benyus, Biomimicry Institute
A regenerative approach is guided by the environment and the needs of the environment as well as those of the communities living within it. It is designed to work with nature, rather than against it, and is inspired by how healthy 🔗living systems create the conditions for life. As a result it is designed to meet human needs (like shelter, food, community) in ways that also contribute to the health and wellbeing of 🔗ecosystems rather than depleting these. In a humanitarian context, caring for people and environment and planning for the longer term means that what is constructed in an emergency can continue to evolve and develop over time. If displacement becomes protracted, people and nature can continue to co-exist and to thrive.
