Big Buddies

Big Buddies and Little Buddies

A big buddy is there to promote success and motivate their little buddy to be successful in and out of school. A big buddy is a role model and can have a positive impact on their little buddies in a way that parents and schools are sometimes unable to. They can be friends, and this can create the opportunity for many positive experiences. A big buddy listens without passing judgment. They can support students in academic areas, assist in setting goals, and discuss problems that may arise in their little buddy's life.

The benefits for big buddies are also numerous. Being a big buddy provides opportunities for students to practice communication, leadership, organizational, and comprehension skills, and to improve their word awareness and reading fluency. In addition, it offers new and exciting ways for students to interact and succeed as members and leaders of the school community. Big buddies develop a greater awareness of how they can be classroom leaders and how important teachers really are.
