ALGEBRA I COURSE OVERVIEW:

Algebra I is the first mathematics course in high school and the focal point is functions; specifically linear, quadratic, and exponential functions. Algebra 1 culminates in the NYS Algebra I Common Core Regents Exam. Students use reasoning and sense-making to develop algebraic thinking that can be used to solve problems both in real-life and mathematical contexts. Students build on experiences from middle school to begin to formalize algebraic ideas, in particular linear relationships and functions.

Illustrative Math is the District’s adopted curriculum for Algebra 1. Teacher guides and materials are not meant to be used as scripts. Before using these materials, do the math and read the teacher's guide. In general, lessons are designed for 45-minute long periods. Some lessons might take up to 2 instructional periods, therefore only 3 to 4 lessons are suggested per week.  Please use your professional judgment and the needs of students as you plan for and enact Math instruction.
