Grade 1 Mathematics Curriculum
Grade 1 Mathematics Curriculum
Grade Level Expectations
In Grade 1, instructional time should focus on three areas:
(1) developing an understanding of addition, subtraction, and strategies for addition and subtraction within 20;
(2) developing an understanding of whole number relationships and place value, including grouping in tens and ones;
(3) developing an understanding of linear measurement and measuring lengths as iterating length units.
Please note that while every standard/topic in the grade level has not been included in this overview, all standards should be included in the instruction.
The mathematical work for grade 1 is partitioned into 6 units:
Unit 1: Sums and Differences to 10
Unit 2: Place Value Through Addition and Subtraction Within 20
Unit 3: Ordering and Comparing Length Measurements as Numbers
Unit 4: Place Value, Comparison, Addition, and Subtraction to 40
Unit 5: Identifying, Composing, and Partitioning Shapes
Unit 6: Place Value, Comparison, Addition, and Subtraction to 100
