Technology

with Mr. Brua

Welcome!

My name is Adam Brua, the Technology Instructor at Rutland Intermediate School. Now more than ever we are relying on technology to meet the diverse needs of our students in an increasingly digital-dependent world. My goal is to prepare your student(s) with the technology skills necessary to be successful in the classroom, while at the same time educating them on the importance of being safe and responsible with the ever-growing amount of technology that they interact with.

Below are some great resources that might be helpful to you as you support your child with technology. If you ever have any questions about the technology that your child uses at school please don't hesitate to reach out!

Want to know if a website/TV show/movie/book is appropriate for your child? I use this website for my two children all of the time. Simply type in the name of the media that you want to learn about and you will see professional reviews as well as thoughts and comments from other parents just like you. By far the best site to make sure that your child is safe with their media choices.

As a fifth grade teacher I always used to stress the importance of learning our basic multiplication facts. Now, as the Technology Instructor, I can't help but to mention the value in proper typing techniques! We spend so much time communicating through text that it is imperative for students to be able to efficiently and accurately type on a keyboard. If students log in using the school Google account, their progress will be saved.

Lets face it - students are naturally attracted to online games, and all things digital for that matter! If you would like to provide a little more academic focus to the online gaming that your child does, consider using the Hour of Code games on this website. Not only will students enjoy the game itself, but they will also be improving their coding skills. After all, in 2015 7 million job openings in the U.S. required coding skills!
