Windfall

To long car rides and

loud music;

Mindless and numbing,

an escape from all that’s real

To laughing and dancing

with you, and her,

Uncaring and wild;

free and unrestrained

To sunsets and sunrises;

reminders that as one day

ends, another can begin;

And both can be beautiful

To lazy days and stolen

Mornings; hours spent in

a haze between fantasy and reality;

In dreams you can almost touch,

but not quite

To icy mouths and sticky smiles,

Sweet, sweet sugar dripping

down warm hands

To idle walks and biting wind;

towering evergreens and sharp

sticks, talking for the fun of it;

and because you know she’ll

Understand

To breathing in words and exhaling

Poetry; learning until you know

Everything, while accepting

you’ll always know nothing

To holding things dear;

clumsy fingers grasping

Memories that slip

away like fading whispers

To basking in the presence of

the familiar; of bearing your

Burdens, sharing your smile;

and knowing maybe one day

it will all be okay

To letting go, and never

forgetting; and hurting

and loving and screaming

and crying;

and knowing nothing really ends,

if it can live here,

forever
