Actor Carl Weathers dies at 76

On 2/1/24 Actor Carl Weathers died in his sleep in Los Angeles California. He was 76 years old. He was most known for his roles as Greef Carga in The Mandalorian, his role as Chubbs Peterson in Happy Gilmore, and his Role as Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies.
He had several great accomplishments throughout his life. His biggest one might be that he was nominated for an Emmy award for his role as Greef Karga in The Mandalorian. He also had a short career in professional football. He won a Pasadena Bowl with San Diego State university in 1969. He then was signed by the Oakland Raiders as a free agent. He played with Oakland for one season before playing in the Canadian Football league. He retired from football in 1974. He was studying theater during the offseasons. He 1st starred in a few minor Television Shows. His very first movie was Magnum Force, another One of his first movies was Force 10 from Navarone. He appeared in this movie with well known actor Harrison Ford. Then came his well known role as boxer Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies. He starred in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He starred in Adam Sandler’s comedy, Happy Gilmore. As well as Predator, the 1987 thriller. His voicing of Combat Carl in Toy Story 4 and Toy Story of Terror. His most recent role was his role as Greef Karga in all 3 seasons of The Mandalorian. He earned an Emmy Award nominee for this role, and directed an episode of Season 3 of The Mandalorian. There will hopefully be a recast of this character instead of them shipping him off to special forces like they did Cara Dune. He will be most remembered as Apollo Creed and Greef Karga.

Jude Mc Cormack, an EJHS 6th grader, says, “I don't know a lot about Carl Weathers but I understand that he was a very beloved actor and I am sad to hear of his death.”
George Cronin, another sixth grader at EJHS, also states, “I did not know who this actor was, but he did a great job in The Mandalorian.
Carl’s funeral took place on February 2nd, the day after his death. The cause of Carl’s death is unknown. All we know is that it took place in his sleep. However there have been several rumors of it being a heart attack or a heart disease. Rather than being buried, his family decided to have him cremated instead.
Many people are acknowledging the fact that he truly was a great actor, from ABC news to his co-star in the Rocky movies. ABC news has said, “What a great actor.” and Slyvester Salone has said, “We lost a legend yesterday.” Of course, he said this the day after he died.
