This year Nov 14, 2023, the 6 grade woodwind and brass band performed their first concert. Their band instructor, Curt Koehler, worked very hard to put this all together. It was a very enjoyable concert.
6th Grader, Blake Waits, plays a trumpet solo during the concert.
Before the concert started my hands were sweating on my trumpet. This was the 6th grade brass band’s first concert. When the audience was watching me, I felt a lot of pressure, though I wasn’t a soloist, it was still a lot to handle. Some of my favorite songs were Mozart Melody, London Bridge, and Jingle Bells. These were my favorite songs because they had melody and harmony, they sounded good, and all the notes were exactly how long they should be. I chose to participate in band because I was really interested in playing the trumpet. The trumpet is small, loud, and easy to play the only hard part is making the sound.
The brass concert did very well. They did not only play as a group but there were some soloist too. Including Austin Bomgardener, Dalton Brown, Story Heckmen, Mason McCarty, Jude McCormick, Arianna Tellez, Blake Waits, and Jack Welch. Overall they all did great the whole band did. “I thought it went really well because they handled it very well for there first concert and 6th grade has the first concert,”Koehler says.
Do you ever wonder how Koehler chooses those songs, there are so many? “What I do is I have a list of songs that they might play and wherever the 6th graders are before the concert that’s what songs they play during the concert.” Says Koehler. “I think they’re right where they need to be this year and they are soon to be playing sheet music.” The 6th grade band sounds like a great group of kids.
Even though you might not have got to go to their concert the 6th grade brass band is doing really well. Next concert is before spring break you should go to see it.
